Spago at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore: A Taste of Home

There are certain restaurants that feel like home – even when home is more than 9,000 miles away.

As a California native who now lives in Las Vegas, I’ve spent much of my life surrounded by the Wolfgang Puck restaurant empire. From Maui to Santa Monica, Las Vegas to DC, London to Singapore. In fact, at this point, I feel like I’ve eaten at – or at least experienced – a large number of his restaurants around the world.

So when we arrived at Spago Singapore at Marina Bay Sands, there was an immediate sense of familiarity.

Only this time, the familiar came with a very different view.

Instead of Las Vegas stretching out below us, we were 57 stories above Singapore, looking across Marina Bay toward the city’s futuristic skyline, Gardens by the Bay and some of the most recognizable architecture in Asia.

And even under a cloudy Singapore sky, it was spectacular.

Spago, with a Singaporean view

Spago Singapore is located on Level 57 of Marina Bay Sands, bringing Wolfgang Puck’s signature California-inspired cuisine to one of the world’s most visually dramatic destinations.

That California connection made the experience especially personal for me.

Puck’s restaurants have been part of my culinary landscape for decades, and Spago has long been a Las Vegas staple. But experiencing Spago and CUT in Singapore was a reminder of just how far the California culinary influence has traveled. Really, since Las Vegas Sands (founded by the late Sheldon Adelson) owns Marina Bay Sands, the entire experience felt like Las Vegas. Several of the other restaurants inside Marina Bay Sands have Las Vegas outposts or sister properties.

At Spago, the restaurant itself feels appropriately sophisticated without becoming overly formal. There’s a polished luxury to it, but the setting does much of the work.

We visited for a late lunch, which I would highly recommend if you want to experience Spago at a leisurely pace.

There was no need to rush.

We could sit, eat, talk, look out over the bay and simply absorb where we were.

And that may have been my favorite part.

Come for the food. Stay for the view.

Spago is one of those rare restaurants where I’d recommend coming even if you aren’t planning a full meal.

Have a cocktail.

Meet someone for a drink.

Spend some time on the terrace.

Take photos.

Or simply pause and take in Marina Bay before continuing your day.

Because the setting is extraordinary.

From this vantage point, Marina Bay Sands feels every bit as iconic as its reputation suggests. The three soaring hotel towers and enormous SkyPark have become one of the defining images of Singapore since the resort opened in 2010.

The property was designed by architect Moshe Safdie and developed by Las Vegas Sands as a massive integrated resort combining luxury accommodations, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, convention facilities and the ArtScience Museum.

For someone who lives in Las Vegas, there was something wonderfully familiar about that idea.

Las Vegas Sands brought a little of the integrated-resort experience we know so well in Las Vegas to Singapore- but Singapore made it entirely its own. Well, at least until one of our ownership groups decides to build a giant “ship” on top of a casino here.

Wolfgang Puck from California to Singapore

There was another layer of familiarity for me, too.

Wolfgang Puck’s culinary story is deeply connected to California, where he became one of the chefs who helped define modern American fine dining. Spago itself began in Los Angeles and became synonymous with the California style of cooking that blends sophistication with a certain sense of ease.

Today, that name has traveled far beyond California.

And sitting at Spago Singapore, I couldn’t help thinking about that journey – from California, to Las Vegas, and now here, overlooking Marina Bay.

Spago Singapore’s menu brings contemporary Californian cuisine together with global influences and ingredients inspired by its location. It’s exactly the kind of culinary cross-cultural experience that makes sense in Singapore, one of the world’s great food cities.

Make it part of the Marina Bay Sands experience

One of the reasons I’d put Spago on a Singapore itinerary is that it can be much more than a meal.

You can easily make Spago part of the larger Marina Bay Sands experience- explore The Shoppes, visit the ArtScience Museum, take in the architecture, enjoy the SkyPark, and finish with drinks at Spago.

And if you’re planning a more indulgent culinary evening, head downstairs to CUT by Wolfgang Puck, the celebrated steakhouse that has earned one Michelin star in Singapore.

That creates a particularly fun Wolfgang Puck progression: Spago for the view and California-inspired cuisine, CUT for the steakhouse experience.

Why we loved it

What stayed with me wasn’t just the food.

It was the feeling.

As a California girl who eventually made Las Vegas home, sitting at Spago Singapore felt like encountering an old friend in an entirely unexpected place.

The name, hospitality and Wolfgang Puck connection all felt familiar, but outside the window was Singapore- and what a view it was.

Even with clouds covering parts of the skyline, Marina Bay looked cinematic – the kind of travel moment that reminds you why luxury travel isn’t simply about beautiful hotels or exceptional restaurants.

It’s about where you are, who you’re with and the memories you make while you’re there.

Our Spago Singapore takeaway

Don’t miss it.

Go for lunch. Go for dinner. Stop in for drinks. Or simply carve out some time to experience the terrace and the view before your next reservation.

For us, Spago Singapore was a little taste of California, a little reminder of Las Vegas and a completely unforgettable view of Singapore.

That’s the kind of luxury travel experience worth remembering.
