Description: The Bungalow in Santa Monica is one of the city’s most iconic spots for a relaxed, yet vibrant, social scene. Located just steps from the beach at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, The Bungalow blends a beachy vibe with rustic-chic decor. With cozy couches, string lights, and fireplaces, it seamlessly blends luxury, laid-back house party, bar and bites. The sprawling space includes indoor and outdoor areas, offering ocean views and a bustling atmosphere that's popular for sunset cocktails and weekend gatherings. There's a pool table inside one room and a roaring fireplace in another with large leather chairs and a leather sofas. The rooms and vibes are eclectic and there's something for everyone.
Deals: While The Bungalow doesn’t have typical "happy hour" deals, you can score some value by arriving early. Drinks can be pricey later in the evening, especially on weekends when the crowds swell. Weekdays tend to be quieter, and you can often enjoy the space without the large weekend rush. Keep an eye on special events or seasonal offerings, which sometimes feature drink specials or themed nights.
Tips & Hacks: Arrive early if you want a table or a good spot to enjoy the sunset. Lines can get long, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, so getting there before 5 p.m. can save you a long wait. We were there on a Friday night, and were able to glide in, but beware, there is always a snaking velvet rope outside just warning of what's to come. Parking at the Fairmont can be expensive, but there are cheaper lots nearby or even metered street parking if you're lucky. For groups, it's worth trying to reserve a private cabana in advance—this ensures you have a spot even when it gets crowded.
Dining: The Bungalow’s menu is curated by FIG, the restaurant inside the Fairmont, and focuses on light bites perfect for sharing. Expect dishes like fresh guacamole, flatbreads, sliders, and tacos. The food pairs well with their signature cocktails, like the "Bungalow Margarita" or the refreshing "Cucumber Cooler." While the menu is more snack-oriented than a full dining experience, it offers enough options to keep you satisfied while sipping drinks.
Don’t Miss: Be sure to catch the sunset from The Bungalow’s outdoor terrace—it’s one of the best places in Santa Monica to watch the sun dip below the horizon. The casual, yet lively atmosphere makes it perfect for unwinding with friends or meeting new people. Also, don’t miss the chance to check out the beachside events, like themed parties or special DJ nights, which often feature great music and a more festive vibe.
Skip It: If you’re not a fan of crowds or long waits, avoid peak weekend evenings. The space can become overwhelmingly packed, and service can slow down during these busy times. If you’re looking for an intimate or quiet evening, The Bungalow may not be the right fit on those high-traffic nights.
