The magic of Sal's Meatballs

Tips & Hacks: For our first experience, the wait staff recommended we try the dishes family style: order a bunch of options for the table, pass around the dishes, THEN order more/something new/more of your favorites.  This is a PERFECT idea for Osteria Fiorella Las Vegas and the best way to dine (especially if you can’t decide between several options).  The menu is seasonal, so if you LOVE a dish, ask if it’s a permanent menu item (like Sal’s perfectly fluffy meatballs) or seasonal.  If it’s seasonal, you better make another reservation stat or miss out on some incredible goodness.

Dining Details: On our first visit we enjoyed an incredible Campanelle with pesto, stracciatella, tomatoes, and pine nuts and our favorite side dish: crispy Brussels sprouts with maple glaze.   That side dish was close to an afterthought for our table, and it was incredible enough that I still think about it to this day.  Alas, both were seasonal dishes, so I’ll have to wait until autumn and say a prayer they come back in some other magical form.

Our second visit over the Christmas holiday was equally incredible: The Fazzoletti with Beef Shank was fantastic and the Basilico Verde pizza with basil pesto and delicious toasted pine nuts blew us all away.

Lasagna Al Forno
Lasagna Al Forno- look at the crispy noodles!

One of my favorite dishes that night was the Lasagna Al Forno- it is NOT your typical lasagna.  This Northern Italian version is baked in their pizza oven, and is lighter and crispier than any lasagna you’ll ever have- think noodles like filo dough and you're on the right track (which may get mixed reactions from traditional lasagna lovers).  They’re wrong, it’s a delight!

For dessert, the peppermint semifreddo and apple crumb cake with vanilla gelato and butterscotch sauce were both amazing.  I’m not usually a huge peppermint lover, and somehow I kept going back again and again.   The little pieces of peppermint in the ice cream were perfectly crunchy and wonderful.

Don’t Miss:  Depending on the season, you have your choice of delightful dishes.  There in the fall?  You NEED the crispy Brussels sprouts with maple glaze.  Winter?  Don’t miss The Fazzoletti with Beef Shank.  Pizza lovers DO NOT miss the basil pesto pizza (or any pizza there).  The great news- Sal’s Meatballs are a permanent part of the menu and a wonderful addition to any meal.  It’s a must-order in my book.

If I see the peppermint semifreddo on the menu again, I will definitely order dessert if I have room.

Meh, Skip it:  Everything we’ve ordered has been wonderful, but I don’t think we needed the wood-roasted mushroom side dish.  Save that for another night and order dessert instead.
